| In most areas of the country, state or local law does not require that you buy a container to surround the casket in the grave. However, many cemeteries require that you have such a container, so that the grave will not sink in. Either a grave liner or a burial vault will satisfy these requirements. Certain cemeteries may also require an additional fee for the grave set up (tent, grass, chairs, and lowering device), weekend fees, or the outer containers not purchased through them, and for opening and closing the grave.
Smaller or larger vaults different from standard sizes above may be ordered if the need arises. Vaults may be set every day during the year, however, clients may be required by the vault company to pay more for the setting of vaults on certain published holidays. Your funeral director will advise you if this is the circumstance.
