Richard E Mell

Richard E. Mell, 81, of Patterson, MO, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at Creve Coeur, MO. He was born August 10, 1938, in Piedmont, MO, to the late Raymond “Dick” and Opal (Vincent) Mell. Richard was united in marriage to Vivian White on August 8, 1959, and to this union, four children were born. He was dedicated to his family and strong in his faith in the Lord. Richard worked in timber for forty years and was an avid fisherman, hunter, and craftsman of wood. He loved spending time with his family, enjoying nature, and making hand-made fishing lures. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Richard “Rick” and Bradley Mell; a granddaughter, Ariel Mell; three brothers: Bill Mell, Charlie Mell, and Robert Leach; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Leach. Richard is forever remembered by his wife of sixty years; a son, Randy Mell, of Patterson, MO; a daughter, Vicki Mell of Ozark, MO; a daughter-in-law, Larissa (Matt) Mell-Young, of Piedmont, MO; a granddaughter, Hannah (Jason) Westmoreland, of Piedmont, MO; and two step-great-grandchildren, Aiden and Kaisley Westmoreland; three sisters: Iva Lee Mell of Piedmont, MO, Ruth Ann (Kenny) Leach of Patterson, MO, Ellen “Poochie” (Bill) Huff of Piedmont, MO; two sisters-in-law, Ernestine (Mell) Waterholter of Easley, SC, and Sonja Mell of Patterson, MO. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his family and friends. Visitation was at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont, MO, and the funeral followed at 3:00 pm. Pastor Don Estes ministered to the family. Scott Mell, Jeff Mell, Mark Huff, Gary Schlater, Tim Cox and Chad Hovis served as pallbearers. Burial was in Patterson Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.rueggfuneralhomes.com
