William Eugene “Bill” Thorsland, 91 of Piedmont, MO, passed away Friday, September 20, 2019, at John J Pershing VA Medical Center, Poplar Bluff, MO. He was born June 20, 1928 in Leeper, MO, to parents John and Alyion (Nickens) Thorsland. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Bill served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a Mason and member of the Piedmont Masonic Lodge #526. He was also a member of the VFW and Piedmont American Legion Post #281. After returning home from service, Bill married the love of his life, Maggie Brown, and became the proud father of his two beautiful girls. Bill was a carpenter by trade. In addition to his carpentry, he was a logger in Missouri and Colorado, a floor layer in St. Louis and member of Local #1310, he enjoyed farming crops and raising livestock. He was a former member of the Wayne County Republican Committee. In his younger days, Bill loved to coon and deer hunt. He was a life-long collector of Griswold cast iron. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother: John Thorsland, Jr. and his son-in-law, Jimmy Anderson. Bill is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Maggie, of sixty-four years; daughters: Teresa Montgomery-Buresh of Piedmont, Eugenia “Jeanie” Anderson of Eminence, MO; grandchildren: Ben Thompson and wife Jennifer, Andrea Thompson, William Montgomery and wife Erica, James “Rob” Montgomery, Jonathan Montgomery and wife Chelsea, Thomas Anderson, Sam Anderson; great-grandchildren: Cyrus, Isaac, Jaxon, Madelyn, Hailey; sisters: Naomi and June both of Hazelwood, MO. Bill will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Visitation was held at Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont, from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Sunday, September 22, 2019, with a Masonic service from 7:00 pm until 7:30 pm in the chapel. Funeral service followed at 12:00 pm, Monday, September 23, 2019, also in the Piedmont chapel. Pastor James Huffman ministered to the family. Benjamin Thompson, William Montgomery, James Montgomery, Jonathon Montgomery, Thomas Anderson, and Samuel Anderson served as pallbearers. Burial was in the Missouri State Veteran Cemetery, Bloomfield, MO, at 3:00 pm, with full military honors provided by Missouri National Guard and American Legion post 382 of Jackson, MO.
