Beatrice “Bonnie” LaVaughn Hughey, 95, of Fenton, MO, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026, at her residence. She was born in St. Louis City, August 10, 1930, to parents Ira C. and Anna Lilian (McClanahan) Blair.
Bonnie was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was raised in St. Louis, and worked many different jobs including telephone operator, Bussman Fuse, Hoffman Printing, and McDonald Douglas, where she met and married Clarence Hughey. She had three children; Kathy, Ed and Fred Schmidt, then she and Clarence had twins, Mike and Melissa.
In 1965 the family moved to Greenville to care for his aging parents, while he continued to work in St. Louis until his death in 1982. Bonnie then lived near her children in Jefferson County, and for the past 21 years has lived with her son Fred and his wife Chris in Fenton.
Bonnie loved her family and spent her entire life serving others. She was always happiest when she was giving something or doing something for someone else. She trusted Christ as her Savior and was baptized by Bro. Gene Casey at Second Baptist Church in Festus. She was also a charter member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Festus.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son: Edward Schmidt; granddaughter: Amy Harris; brothers: Mike and Larry Blair; sisters: Laverne Kaeshammer and Lanore Wolfe.
Bonnie is survived by her sons: Fred Schmidt and wife Chris of Fenton, Mike Hughey and wife Kay; daughters: Kathleen “Kathy” Ruble and husband Pete of Piedmont, Melissa McCrorey and husband Glenn of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren: Kim Piet and husband John, Jessica Ross and husband Mike, Scott Ruble and wife Jen, Matt Hughey, Danny Hughey and girlfriend Emily, Beth Ruble, Mandy Ferrante and husband Phil, Nick McCrorey and wife Kenzie; many great and great-great grandchildren. Bonnie will be greatly missed by her family, and especially her many grandchildren, great, and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was held at 11:00 am, Monday, January 19, 2026, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville Chapel. Funeral followed at 1:00 pm, also in the Greenville Chapel. Bro. Pete Ruble ministered to the family. Scott Ruble, Luke Piet, Brock Piet, Danny Hughey, Ben Piet, Nick McCrorey, Asher Reames, and Samuel Harris served as pallbearers.
