Betty Jo (Yates) Cothern, 89, of St. Clair, MO, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Crystal Oaks Assisted Living, Crystal City, MO. She was born in Yuma, AZ, June 9, 1935, to parents Clyde and Ollie (Ross) Yates.
Betty was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who cherished each moment spent with her family. Betty was united in marriage to John William Bunyard on June 6, 1953, and to this union, they were blessed with two children: Dale and Doug Bunyard. On June 29, 1962, Betty was united in marriage to Raymon Loyd Cothern, and they were blessed with four children: Raymon II, Sherri, Roy, and Matthew.
A devout Christian, Betty accepted Christ at the age of 13 and remained steadfast in her Protestant faith, being a lifelong member of the Assembly of God Church. Her faith and love for her family were the foundation of her life. She had an incredible passion for flowers and landscaping and enjoyed collecting angels. Hosting family gatherings and creating cherished memories were some of the many joys of her life.
Betty adored and lovingly spoiled her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always ensuring they knew how special they were to her. Her kind heart, nurturing spirit, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by both of her husbands; son: Raymon II; brother: Leroy Yates; sister: Mary Ann Cayton.
Betty is survived by her four sons: Roy Cothern of Imperial, Matt Cothern and wife Helena of St. Clair, Dale Bunyard and wife Theresa of Williamsville, and Doug Bunyard of St. Clair; daughter: Sherri Mabrey and husband Ron of DeSoto; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; brother: Bob Yates; sisters-in-law’s: Igeana and Geneva; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends, including Juanita Melton.
Betty will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and family.
Visitation was held at 10:00 am, Thursday, February 13, 2025, at St. Clair Assembly of God Church located at 255 Crescent Lake Rd, St Clair, MO 63077. Funeral service followed at 12:00 noon, also at St. Clair Assembly of God Church. Burial was held at 12:00 noon, Friday, February 14, 2025, at Carson Hill Cemetery, Mill Spring, MO.
