Bro. Gary "Giz" Mahurin II Obituary

Bro. Gary “Giz” Mahurin II, 60, of Piedmont, MO, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. He was born in Bonne Terre, MO, April 4, 1965, to parents Gary Mahurin Sr. and Cosondra (Kindle) Wisdom. Giz was a devoted husband, nurturing father, loving grandfather, loyal brother, and cherished friend. He graduated from Bismarck High School and later attended Missouri Valley College. On April 28, 1989, he married the love of his life, Robin Kennedy. Together they built a beautiful family and shared a life full of laughter, faith, and countless treasured memories. They were blessed with three children who were the pride and joy of his life. A hardworking and dedicated man, Giz spent many years as a machinist at Ameren before retiring. He also served his community as a volunteer firefighter, always willing to lend a helping hand. In the years that followed, Giz answered a higher calling and became a preacher. To know Bro. Giz was to encounter unconditional love, hear the message of Jesus, and feel the warmth of what many lovingly described as the best hug in the world. His faith was the foundation of his life. He loved God, his family, and the body of Christ more than anything. Some of his fondest memories were made at deer camp with family, in fellowship and ministry with Bro. Will Davis, and during the blessed Friday nights spent with the Bright Prospects Church family. Bro. Giz held a special place in his heart for Bro. Will Davis, Bro. Craig Green, and Sis. Nona Sutt, all of whom were dear to him. Bro. Giz was known for his unwavering love of Christ and his kind, gentle spirit. He touched countless lives with his compassion, encouragement, and steadfast faith. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ray and Naomi Mahurin; maternal grandparents, Bur and Capitola Kindle; grandparents, Travis and Ruth Robinson; and his father-in-law, Danny Kennedy. Bro. Giz is survived by his loving wife of thirty-six years; children: Garrett Mahurin, Chelsie Wimpee and husband Timmy, Elizabeth Mahurin; treasured grandchildren: Danny and Elizabeth Wimpee; mother: Kay Mahurin; brothers: Doug Landolt and wife Holly, and Todd Landolt and wife Rita; father- and mother-in-law: Mike and Janice Kennedy; and special brothers: Will Davis and Craig Green, along with special sister: Nona Sutt. Bro. Giz will be deeply missed by his family, friends, church family, and the entire community he so faithfully served.
