Charles Edward Payne, 80, of Ellsinore, MO, passed away on November 12, 2024, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, Poplar Bluff, MO. He was born on July 18, 1944, in East St. Louis, IL, to Charles Melvin and Margaret Minnie (Segobiano) Payne.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Charles dedicated many years of his life to working with Union Pacific Railroad, a career he took great pride in. A man of deep faith, he was a member of the Catholic Church.
Charles was united in marriage to Catherine Marie Atteberry, and they were blessed with four children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Melvin and Margaret Minnie Payne.
Charles is survived by his loving wife; children: Ron Payne and wife Tammy of Enumclaw, WA, Rick Payne and wife Darely of Graham WA, Charles Payne Jr. of Ellsinore, Brandy Payne Walker and husband Eric of Ellsinore; stepchildren: Christina Wieber and husband Russ of Lakeland, FL, James MIller of Fairview Heights, IL, Mechelle Miller; grandchildren: Sophie Payne, Brittney Longo and husband Anthony, Emily Garett, Lauralyn, Rebecca, Darrick, Darrel, Ricky, and Henry Payne, Bethany and James Payne, Danielle Blurton, Christine Bunten, Selina and Sabian Brame, Mariah and Sarah Pibbs, Eric Wieber and companion Bridget Hall, Alex Wieber, Evan Weiber and wife Kaley, RaeAnn and Calli Miller; brother: Gary Payne and wife Jan of Kirkwood; sister: Debbie Timmons and husband Kerry of St. Louis; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A memorial visitation was held Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 11:00 am, at St. Catherine's of Sienna Catholic Church, Piedmont, MO. Funeral mass was held at 12:00 pm, also at St. Catherine’s of Sienna Catholic Church. Father Dan Hirtz ministered to the family. Burial followed in St. Catherine's Cemetery with full military honors provided by the United States Army and American Legion Post 281 of Piedmont.
