Deloris Wright Obituary

Deloris May Wright, 84, of Des Arc, MO, passed away Friday, June 4, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Des Arc, MO, Deloris was one of six kids. As the daughter of Donald and Doretha Dean, she attended the Des Arc Public School from which she graduated in 1954. She remembered walking in and out of the “holler” to go to school and Stamp’s store (which was located in the middle of town) from which they bought candy and soda pop, to meet with other kids and attend church on Sunday mornings at the First Assembly of God in Des Arc. She talked about a town that was much bigger than it had come to be. She remembered the railroad that ran down through the middle of town, wooden sidewalks, a handle mill which employed her father along with many others, a jail house, and a whistle that blew every day at the same given time.

She left Des Arc at the age of twenty, when she was united in marriage to James Lee Wright of Ellijay, GA. As his wife she stood beside him as he served in the Air Force until he retired. Living in places like Dublin, Georgia; Fort Sumpter, South Carolina; Burkburnett, Texas; Turkey, and Spain.

Deloris raised her twin boys, Douglas and Donald to become the good hearted, hard working men that they are today. Along with her sons, she enjoyed the company and love of four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who each and everyone remained her pride and joy.

A strong and brave woman, loving wife, caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister, aunt to many nieces and nephews, and a humble servant of God who trusted Him in life and death with all that was within her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lee Wright, her mother and father, Donald and Doretha Dean; two sisters, Emma “Tudor” Stevenson and Freida “Sissy” Miller; Carl “Bud” Dean (a brother), and two great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister – Lola Faye Lutten and one brother Vernon Dean (both of Des Arc); two sons, Douglas Vernon Wright and his wife Connie of Nashville, Tennessee; Donald Avery Wright and his wife Debbie of Piedmont, Missouri; her grandchildren: Nikki Wright, Adam Whitehead and Susan Wright of Nashville, Tennessee; Brandon and Danielle Sullivan of Sparta, Missouri; Donnie and Jeanna Wright of Piedmont, Missouri; and seven great-grandchildren: Jackson West, Grant Anderson, and Madyson Adelle Sullivan; Nolan James, Audrianna Grace, and Lauren Avery Wright; and Charlotte Rose Whitehead; many nieces and nephews; and will be greatly missed by all who knew her well.

Visitation was held at 11:00 am, Sunday, June 6, 2021, at Des Arc First Assembly of God Church. Funeral service followed at 1:00 pm, also at Des Arc First Assembly of God Church.
