Donald Shular, 83, of DeKalb, Illinois, formerly of Hiram, MO, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at his home. He was born June 4, 1939, in Hiram, MO, to parents Boyce and Opal (Ward) Shular.
Donald was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He married Jimmie Chappell, May 25, 1965, in Reno, Nevada and they were blessed with three children. Donald was of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hunting and in his younger years, traveling. He had a great love for his pets, especially his Westie dogs. Donald proudly served in the United States Army, serving in Germany. He was a one-of-a-kind, special, gentle soul. Never said a curse word and loved his family beyond measure.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of forty-nine years; grandson: Sean Moriarity; brother: Franklin Shular; sister: Eva Smith.
He is survived by his children: Sandy Woodham and late husband Bill, Deborah Moriarity and Robert Cates Sr; grandchildren: Shanna Reiling and husband Kenneth, James Moriarity and wife Sana, Tonya Woodham, Todd Woodham, Robert Cates Jr, Lori Quinton and husband Gary, Brennan, Jarett and Cohen Moriarity; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Donald will be greatly missed.
Visitation was held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville Chapel. Funeral service followed at 12 noon, also in the Greenville Chapel. Burial was in Wesley-Dixon Cemetery in Hiram, MO, with full military honors.
