Doris “Ann” McAllister, 73, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at her residence. She was born May 28, 1951, in Wayne County, MO, to parents Thurman and Dorothy (Flippin) Cox.
Ann was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, known for her deep love and unwavering faith. Ann worked as a driver’s examiner for the Missouri Highway Patrol, where she earned the respect of many during her years of service.
A member of the First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, Ann’s Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was passionate about sharing her love for music, particularly bluegrass. Ann’s talents included playing the guitar and singing at the Grand Ole Opry, where she cherished performing for audiences. She also hosted a popular bluegrass radio show, Two Girls Bluegrass, on KOKS, which allowed her to share her love for music with the community.
Ann’s greatest joy, however, was her family. She had a special bond with her grandchildren, always eager to spend time with them and watch them grow.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Nora “Grace” Shell.
Ann is survived by her daughters; Cheryl Hicks and husband Tim of Williamsville, and Nancy McAllister of Williamsville; grandchildren: Morgan Brannon and wife Azia, Bailey Parker, Christian Parker, Cloey Sawicki, Tucker Hicks, Trevor McAllister and Taylor Gallamore; great-grandchildren: Hailey and Levi McAllister; brother: John Cox and wife Jeanette of Williamsville; sisters: Sue Greene of Puyallup, WA, Freda James of Poplar Bluff, and Norma Jean Goff of Poplar Bluff; as well as many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends who will miss her dearly.
Ann will be remembered for her kindness, her strong faith, and the love she shared with everyone she met. She leaves behind a legacy of joy, faith, and the beauty of music, which will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew her.
