Dr. A. Wayne "Doc" Cook, 78, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born on June 2, 1941, in Carthage, MO, to Archie and Doris (Harrison) Cook, who preceded him in death. Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He married Cheri Slaybaugh on September 1, 1989. He was a school superintendent for twenty-two years. He enjoyed travel, golfing and the lake. He loved Rotary and was President of the Piedmont Rotary Club for one year and served as Treasurer and Foundation Chairman for twenty-four years. Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Cheri, of thirty years; one son, Rusty Cook and wife, Tara, of Springfield, MO; grandchildren: Brad Cook and wife, Bethany, of Siloam Springs, AR; Dr. Matt Cook of Kansas City, MO; Sara Clark and husband, Tim, of Fayetteville, AR; brothers, Rick Cook of Dallas, TX, and Phil Cook and wife, Roberta, of Alba, MO. A first visitation was from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, MO. A second visitation was from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 23, 2020, at Simpson Funeral Home, 400 W Daugherty St, Webb City, MO, 64870. Funeral followed at 1:00 pm, also in the Simpson Chapel. Rusty, Matt, and Phil Cook all gave a heartfelt eulogy. Brad Cook, Matt Cook, Phil Cook, Jason Cook, Tim Clark, Chuck Blaney, Rusty Mullinax, and John Garton served as pallbearers. Burial was in Purcell Friends Cemetery, Purcell, MO.
