Earl “Bussie” Marler of Perryville, MO passed away peacefully in his home with his family at his bedside on March 14, 2025

Bussie was born in Wardell, MO on September 28, 1941, and lived the majority of his youth in the Greenville, MO area.  He moved to Rochelle, IL in the early 1960s where he and his former wife raised two children, Brad and Melanie Marler.

He married his lifelong partner and wife Janis (McDowell) Marler on July 4th, 1992.  They returned to Missouri in 1995 where they enjoyed many happy years enjoying rural Missouri and exploring the many places he spent time as a youth and spending time with family.

Bussie worked at Rochelle Printing Company for more than 30 years as a pressman until he retired in 1994. 

He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, loved fishing, and wildlife. He was an avid storyteller of life in Missouri and his family and friends.  He was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Melanie Ann Marler in 1992 and his six sisters, Pauline (Lloyd) Elder, Hazel Marler, Virginia (Eugene “Shin”) Baker, Jewell Davis-Ward, Beulah “Bootie” (Bill) Gobtop, Lois (Jim) Utley / Walter Lee, and his parents George and Mary Marler.

Bussie is survived by his wife of 32 years Janis, son Bradley (Lori) Marler, Stepson Chris Chiavini, Grandchildren Courtney Bullock, Alec Marler, and Kaitlin (Lourens) deBeer, Great-Grandchildren Dominick Bullock and Landon deBeer, Brother-in-law Bill Gobtop, and many special nieces, and nephews.

Bussie was laid to rest next to his parents and sister. A graveside service was held 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Greenville. Bro. Glen Crutchfield ministered to the family. Chris Chiavini, Alex Marler, Lourens deBeer, Jeremy Utley, Robert Chrismann and Kevin Price served as pallbearers.
