Elmer Allen Jr.

Elmer Allen Jr., 87, of Des Arc, MO, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2024, at his nephew’s home in Festus, MO.

Elmer was born in St. Louis, MO, April 22, 1937, to Elmer and Myrtle Rose (Doyle) Allen Sr. He was a cherished brother, uncle, and friend, known for his warm personality and his deep love for his family.

A man of many talents, Elmer had a long and successful career as a printer. He started his career at Dunn and Brad Street in St. Louis, MO, before moving on to the Mountain Echo, then to Delbridge in Maplewood, Anderson's Print Shop, and finally retiring from Valcour Printing Company in Valley Park.

Elmer had a zest for life and a passion for history, particularly his family’s heritage. He participated in the Allen’s July 4th family reunions every year, only missing two out of the eighty-seven reunions they had. Elmer was known for his entertaining spirit and love for each generation of nieces and nephews. His love for history extended to his involvement with the Des Arc Museum, where he was a charter member, and he attended the Des Arc High School Alumni every year to stay connected with friends and community.

Elmer enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting in his younger days, and watching westerns. He was of the Protestant faith and was a constant source of joy and inspiration to those around him. His greatest pride was his family, and his devotion to them never wavered.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Oliver Lee Allen, and his sisters, Wilma Ruth Lashley and Thelma Lorene Farmer.

Elmer leaves behind nineteen nieces and nephews who will deeply miss his kindness and love.

Visitation was held at 5:00 pm, Friday, December 20, 2024, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont Chapel. Funeral service was held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, December 21, 2024, also in the Piedmont Chapel. Pastor Jerry Patterson ministered to the family. Frances Kempker, Ashley Benson, Peter Allen, Andy German, Jared Lashley, Jack Lashley Jr., Alex Medina, Tyler Polk, and Kyle Polk served as pallbearers. Burial was in Mt. View cemetery, Des Arc.
