Enoch Eugene Thompson, 93, of Piedmont, MO, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Clark’s Mountain Nursing Center, Piedmont, MO. He was born in Mill Spring, MO, December 19, 1930, to parents William Edgar and Martha (Montgomery) Thompson.
Enoch was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was raised in the Mill Spring and Otter Creek area and attended Mill Spring school until the 8th grade then attended Piedmont High School. Enoch married the love of his life, Pauline Delores Sheets, on July 13, 1950, and they were blessed with three children. He proudly served in the United States Army completing a tour in the Korean war as an infantryman working his way up to Technical Sergeant upon his honorable discharge.
Enoch was soft spoken, easy going and greeted people with a smile. He taught his children how to treat others. He was a successful entrepreneur in Piedmont, MO. He owned and operated a store in Mill Spring in 1952, owned Thompson’s Place in 1967, across from Gooches, selling groceries and sporting goods before opening Thompson’s Sporting Goods and Package Liquor in the middle of town in the 1970’s. He also owned and operated Piedmont Small Engines for many years. Enoch also had a Real Estate license and bought and sold property. He started what is now Ricks ATV in 1986 and Ricks Pawn in 1989.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-six years; son: Victor Thompson; grandson: Kyle Mowery; brothers: Ralph Thompson, Herb Radford, Berty Radford; sisters: Mirl Fears, Faye Sullivan, Berniece McIntre, Ava Hensley, and Eula Wray.
Enoch is survived by his children: Rick Thompson and wife Pam of Piedmont, Yvonne Wheelehon and husband Harry of Piedmont; daughter-in-law: Mary Thompson of Piedmont; grandchildren: Erica Huitt, Courtney Thompson, Haleigh Larkin and husband Dominic, Cory Thompson and wife Annie, Ben Thompson and wife Jennifer, Andrea Thompson, Doug Wheelehon and wife Angie, Jennifer Wheelehon and husband Don Osley; Scott Mell, Tina Bell, Laura Miller; great-grandchildren: Adrian Huitt, Kelsey Huitt, Jacob Thompson and wife Caitlin, Ellie Thompson, Isacc Thompson, Madelyn Thompson, Cyrus Burns, Jaxon Burns, Shane Chandler, Zoe Bell, DeLaney Larkin, Evan Dion, Colin Dion, Matt Osley, Ryan Osley; many nieces, nephews, and his companion, best friend, and buddy, Scooby his dog. Enoch will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation was held at 11:00 am, Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont Chapel. Funeral service followed at 2:00 pm, also in the Piedmont Chapel. Bro. Bill Turner ministered to the family. Cyrus Burns gave a heartfelt eulogy he wrote. Cory Thompson, Ben Thompson, Scott Mell, Dominic Larkin, Doug Wheelehon, and Tim Sheets served as pallbearers. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery with full military honors provided by the United States Army and American Legion Post 281 of Piedmont. Online condolences can be made at www.rueggfuneralhomes.com
