Floyd “Smoky” A. Swope, 84, of Coldwater, MO, passed away Monday, June 7, 2021, at Mercy Hospital South, St. Louis. He was born in Venice, IL, on May 15, 1937, to parents Clarence and Myrtle (Lyon) Swope.
Smoky was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He married Thelma “Jerri” Evans on August 20, 1956, and they were blessed with four wonderful children. Smoky proudly served his country in the United States Army earning the title Corporal before leaving the service. He was a combat engineer and earned a National Defense Service Medal. After leaving the Army, Smoky worked on the Gulf Coast for several years. He was an aircraft pilot and enjoyed his daily chores on his farm, playing his guitar, working on Volkswagens, and going to church. Smoky’s greatest legacy was his family, he loved his children and grandchildren dearly.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of forty-nine years; daughter: Angela Campbell; brother: George Swope; sisters: Louise Hill and Mamie Swope; son-in-law: Bob Twidwell.
Smoky is survived by his children: Rick Swope and wife Linda of Fredericktown, Randy Swope and wife Daphne of Sikeston, Darla Twidwell of Greenville; grandchildren: Chelci Twidwell, Jay Ahart, Morgan Swope, Tanner Swope, Lauren Townsend, Alexander Campbell, Mariah Campbell, Alex Swope, Ashley Swope; five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and friends. Smoky will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation was held at 12:00 noon, Sunday, June 13, 2021, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville Chapel. Funeral service followed at 2:00 pm, also in the Greenville Chapel. Bro. Jerry Gibson ministered to the family. Randy Swope, Alex Swope, Travis Irby, Jay Ahart, Alexander Campbell, Jerry Tibbs, and Causey Charley served as pallbearers. Burial was in Mt.
