Garry Wayne Hicks Sr., 71, of Piedmont, MO, passed away on October 13, 2024. He was born on November 15, 1952, in St. Louis, to parents Clecy Laverne and Virgie Inez (Faulkner) Hicks. He was a loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and a friend to many.
Garry's journey began in St. Louis, where he attended Grover Cleveland High School. In his younger years, he found joy in bodybuilding, demonstrating a dedication to fitness and well-being. Garry met his soulmate, Elizabeth Clara Short, at Giffords Convenient Store, where a simple act of buying her a candy bar blossomed into a lifelong love. They married on November 20, 2004, creating a partnership filled with love and laughter.
A committed Christian, Garry was an active member of Friendship Baptist Church in Piedmont, where his faith guided his life. From 1988 to 1998, he owned and operated a taxi company in Piedmont, known for his warm personality and kindness to his passengers. He then transitioned to driving non-emergency medical transportation from 1997 until 2010, continuing his dedication to helping others in the community.
Garry had a passion for music and was a talented vocalist, singing lead and playing guitar in the Bootheel Express band and performing at local venues throughout the Piedmont area. His love for music brought joy to many and left a lasting impact on those who heard him perform.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his beloved son, Joshua Phillip Henry Hicks.
Garry is survived by his mother; his loving and devoted wife of twenty years, his children Kenneth Richard Hicks of St. Louis, Garry Wayne Hicks Jr. of Los Angeles, CA, Terah Danetta Comia and husband Ronald of Cedar Hill, and Clara Elizabeth Hicks of Piedmont. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Ruby Megan Kane, Shea Elsie Comia, Skye Leanne Comia, Novalyn Grace Comia, and three great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brothers, Larry Edward Hicks of Piedmont, Jimmy Nathan Hicks, and significant other Barb Skaggs, of Piedmont. Garry will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation was held at 1:00 pm, Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont Chapel. Memorial service followed at 2:00 pm, also in the Piedmont Chapel. Pastor Don Hutto ministered to the family. Online condolences can be made at www.rueggfuneralhomes.com
