James Goff Obituary

James Goff of Poplar Bluff passed away at 80 years of age on January 27, 2020, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born November 21, 1939, to Otha and Flora Edith (Null) Goff near Greenville, MO. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. On June 4, 1959, he married the love of his life, Norma Cox, and to this union, two children were born. James attended elementary school at Lone Star School, which was in the Camp Allen area. He was employed by Greer Construction for twelve years before becoming owner and operator of Goff Custom Backhoe Work for forty years. James loved spending time with family and enjoyed fishing, camping, and woodworking. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Marion and John Goff; and sisters, Bessie Goff and Helen Warren. James is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty years; his children, Don Goff and wife, Sherry, of Wappapello, MO, Sandy Taurone and husband, Tim, of Poplar Bluff; grandchildren: Anthony (Alex) Taurone, Nathan (Michelle) Taurone, Valerie Taurone (Jeff White), Audrey (Taylor) Smith, Megan Goff-Goodwin, Terrah Stratton (Kinard Boatner), Taylor (Cory) Jackson; great-grandchildren: Lunden, Loni, Jocelyn, Journey, Annalee, Nyla, Amara, Huxley, Beckham, and baby Taurone due in July; James’s sister, Mary Margaret Gilbreath; and faithful companion and family dog, April. James will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Visitation was held from 5-8 pm, Wed., Jan 29, 2020, at Westwood Baptist Church, Poplar Bluff, MO. Funeral service followed  at 11:00 am, on Thurs., Jan 30, 2020, also at Westwood Baptist Church. Pastor Steve Proctor ministered to the family. Pallbearers were Nathan Taurone, Taylor Smith, Jeff White, Cory Jackson, Anthony Taurone, Kinard Boatner, with Keith Jackson serving as honorary pallbearer.  Burial was in Cool Springs Cemetery, Taskee. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Westwood Baptist Church Building Fund at 419 Co Rd 5231, Poplar Bluff, MO 63901, in honor of James.
