James Phillips, 90, of Lowndes, MO, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2020, at Houston Methodist West Hospital, Houston, TX. He was born in New Ulm, TX, March 3, 1930, to parents William W. and Jessie (Johnson) Phillips.
James was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He married June Homes on November 6, 1949, and to this union seven children were born. James proudly served our country about thirteen years in the United States Navy during the Korean war era. He then joined and retired from the reserves. James was an active member at Crossroads Baptist Church before moving to Texas. He was also dedicated to the Lyons Club for forty-three years earning many awards, buttons, and ribbons. James enjoyed puttering in his yard and working in his garden.
He is preceded in death by his sons: Orville and James Phillips; daughters: Sandra Phillips, Rebekah Fay Phillips.
James is survived by his children: Thomas W. Phillips of Williamsville, Deborah Phillips of Katy, TX., Delores Phillips of Webster Groves: many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; sister: Marie Miller of Smithville, TX. James will be missed by his family.
Visitation was held at 10:00 am, Thursday, October 15, 2020, at Crossroads Baptist Church. Funeral service followed at 11:00 am, also at Crossroads Baptist Church. Bro. Frank Radford ministered to the family. Thomas Phillips, Chris Pressey, Steve Phillips, Ron Etling, and Felix Leferer served as pallbearers. Burial was in Crossroads Cemetery near Greenville, with full military honors provided by the United State Navy and American Legion Post 281, Piedmont.
