Bill began his new life strolling the streets of gold in Heaven on June 16, 2020, at the age of 71. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ronnie Payne and Johnny Payne. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Joslyn Payne of 44 years, his son and best friend Cory Payne and wife Dona of Greenville and his son Greg Payne of West Portsmouth, Ohio. Bill was the proud grandfather, best buddy and partner in crime to his three grandchildren, Bryna Payne, Kaytlin Payne and Ryan Payne, all of Greenville. He is also survived by his siblings, Tommy "Junior" Payne, Ristol Payne, Linda Lloyd and Ricky Payne and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Bill entered the United States Army at the age of eighteen, where he served in the Vietnam War and received a purple heart for his service before he was honorably discharged. After leaving the military, Bill was employed as a Maintenance Mechanic for many years. Bill was a dedicated member of Kime General Baptist Church where he served as song leader for many years. He enjoyed playing bluegrass music with his son, Cory and singing at church but most of all he enjoyed spoiling his three grandchildren.
