James "Jimmy" Crutchfield, 84, of Poplar Bluff, MO, formerly of Piedmont, MO, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. He was born in Rector, AR, October 7, 1938, to parents James and Ota (Ennest) Crutchfield.
Jimmy was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was raised in Wayne County and attended Kime school for a short time. He also attended Gideon school and Cuba school. He married Shirley Smith, June 7, 1958, and they were blessed with four children. Jimmy was saved at an early age and started preaching about the age of sixteen. He pastored many churches throughout the years ministering to many. He served as pastor at Pevely General Baptist Church, New Liberty Jacktown Church, and North Pekin General Baptist, Pekin, IL. The last church Jimmy pastored was Pentecostal Church of God, Dexter, MO. Jimmy was a remodel carpenter, never met a stranger and always had a joke to tell. Jimmy was not usually seen without his contagious smile and an encouraging word.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by granddaughter: Natasha Andrews: great-grandson: Huxley Jackson; brothers: A.C., Wayne, Elmar, Melvin and Jesse Crutchfield; sisters: Varble "Bo" Parson, Lora Gumpert and Drusilla "Peggy" Crutchfield.
Jimmy is survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty-four years; children: Laniel Crutchfield and wife Olivia of Farmington, Lynn Street and husband Wayne of Piedmont, Sandy Wood and husband John of Poplar Bluff, Karen Morris and husband Dale of Piedmont; grandchildren: Jimmy, Matthew, and Christopher Andrews, Katrina Wilkins, Brandon, and Jeremy Luke, Valarie Birkmier, Mindy Crawford, Stacy Kohtz, Sarah Kitchell, Kelly Redoutey, Jeannette Townsend; fifty-one great-grandchildren; brothers: Tommy Crutchfield and wife Loretta of Ellington, Raymond Crutchfield and wife Dee of Advance; sister: Leota McFall Union; many nieces, nephews and his second loyal best friend and companion, his dog Lady. Jimmy will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation was held at 5:00 pm, Friday, May 12, 2023, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont Chapel. Funeral service was held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, May 13, 2023, also at Piedmont Chapel. Pastor Wayne Street ministered to the family. Jimmy Andrews shared special memories, Laniel Crutchfield and Pastor Kent Miller gave a heartfelt eulogy. John Wood read the obituary, Jimmy Andrews, Matt Andrews, Christopher Andrews, Jeremy Luke, Brandon Luke, Kevin Madison served as pallbearers. Burial was in Meador-Flatwoods, Piedmont.
