Joan L (Brooks) Thomure

Joan LaVerne (Brooks) Thomure, age 86, passed away on May 9, 2020 at Riverview at the Park in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.
  
She was born on October 14, 1933 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Winfred and Hazel Brooks.  Soon after, her family returned to Wayne County, Missouri, living in Patterson and Piedmont during her childhood.
  
Joan was a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone in Farmington and Lammert’s Furniture in downtown St. Louis.  After her family came to Ste. Genevieve, she worked at Miss Elaine for 20 years and later was on the original team to open the Grandpa’s store.
  
She enjoyed cooking and crafts and both had earned her many county fair blue ribbons.  Her home was decorated with all the ceramic mice she could get her hands on.  Even later in life as she was receiving care from others, she was able to return the favor by lending a sympathetic ear for many of her caregivers to share their stories.
  
Joan is survived by a son, Jim (Angie) Thomure of Wentzville, Missouri, two grandchildren, Kelly (Joshua) Stockhorst of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Scott Thomure (Matthew Johnson) of Wichita, Kansas, and two great grandchildren, Nora and Lucas Stockhorst.
  
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Marjorie Canfield.

Graveside services was held Monday, May 18, 2020, at 12 noon at Patterson Cemetery.
