Joe Griggs

Joe Griggs, son of the late William "Bill" and Ola (Grable) Griggs, was born in Williamsville, MO, on November 2, 1931. He departed this life at his home on December 23, 2022, at the age of 91.

Joe was united in marriage to the late Hazel (Graham) Griggs, May 14, 1955, in Patterson and to this union three children were born. He was of the Baptist faith and when health permitted was an active attendee of the Bethel Baptist Church. Joe enjoyed gardening, wood working, and being outdoors. When Joe was young and starting his family, he built Griggs Sawmill and Lumber Company from the ground up. He owned and operated the company with both of his sons for over fifty years until he retired at the age of seventy.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his brother: Robert (Bob) Griggs of Michigan.

Joe is survived by his children: Stan and his wife Shelia Griggs of Williamsville, Brent and his wife Amber Griggs of Piedmont, and Sharon Webb of Poplar Bluff; grandchildren: Sarah Griggs, Cory Griggs, Devin Griggs, Preston Griggs, Kendra Griggs; great-grandchildren: James Cassin, Jayce Cassin, Drake Griggs, and Paisley Spencer. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation was held at 5:00 pm, Friday, December 30, 2022, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Williamsville Chapel. Funeral service was held at 10:30 am, Saturday, December 31, 2022, also in the Williamsville Chapel. Pastor Helen Edwards ministered to the family. Bob Hillis SR., Bobby Hillis, Brian Smith, Paul Pollard, Richie Eads, and Mark Risby served as pallbearers. Burial was in Graham Cemetery, Piedmont, MO.
