John E. Gauwitz

John Ellis Gauwitz, 66, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Cedargate Healthcare, Poplar Bluff. He was born in Highland Park, IL, February 27, 1957, to parents Paul and Dorothy (McConnell) Gauwitz.

John was a loving son, brother, and friend. He enjoyed listening to someone read a book to him and music, and stuffed animals. John loved all animals, but horses and dogs really made his eyes light up. He loved the companionship he found in his friends at Whispering Oaks and enjoyed being around others.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister: Sharon Babcock.

John is survived by his brother: Don Gauwitz and wife Marilyn of McHenry, IL; nieces, nephews, and many friends. John will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.   

Visitation was held 10:00 am, Friday, November 17, 2023, at Evangel Baptist Church, Missionary Acres, Silva. Funeral service followed at 11:00 am, also at Evangel Baptist Church. Bro. Irvin Cobb and Bro. Ken Moon ministered to the family. Don Gauwitz, Brian Waala, David Mowen, Ken Moon, Daniel Albright, Ron Hemsworth served as pallbearers.
