John "Sonny" Pruett

John "Sonny" E. Pruett, 75, of Piedmont, MO, passed away Tuesday May 2, 2023, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. He was born in Patterson, MO, to parents Edmond and Sarah (Babb) Pruett.

Sonny was united in marriage to Delaine Zoellner on May 20, 1967. Sonny was best known as “Johnny Diamond” and spent many years wrestling. If you knew Sonny, he was proud of being a former wrestler, especially since he once wrestled Rick Flair and Rowdy Roddie Piper. He served as a police officer in St. Louis, MO in the late 60’s early 70’s.  He also worked for Kmart and the sawmill in Silva. He was a big fan of Elvis Presley and Conway Twitty.

In addition to his parents, Sonny is preceded in death by his siblings; John Pruett, Steven Pruett, Clara White. Sonny is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years; Delaine (Zoellner) Pruett; children: Tina Pruett of Poplar Bluff, Cary Pruett and significant other David Harper of Poplar Bluff, Ashley Pruett of Glenpool; brothers: Ben Pruett of Arnold, Tony Pruett and wife Margie of Piedmont; grandchildren: Clara Pruett, Arianna Burlbaugh, Jaxon Pruett; one great-grandchild on the way Luna Belle Delaine Hubert. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation was held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont Chapel. Funeral service followed at 1:00 pm, also in Piedmont Chapel. Pastor Wayne Street ministered to the family. Gerald Allen, Brandon Ricks, Ryan Ricks, Nathan Babb, Austin Babb, and John Boomer Pruett served as pallbearers.
