Larry Dean Hamilton, 78, of Lowndes, MO, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at St. Francis Medical Center, Cape Girardeau, MO. He was born in Cape Girardeau, June 1, 1945, to parents, Herschel and Elfrida (Dickerson) Hamilton.
Larry was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and friend. He was a Scott City, MO, high school graduate. He married the love of his life, Mary Lou Slinkard on June 7, 1963, and they were blessed with three daughters. Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was captain of a tow boat for around thirty years, piloted in Illinois, Ohio, and upper Mississippi Rivers. In retirement, he enjoyed his cigarettes and DirecTV. Larry’s greatest legacy was his family. He loved his grandkids and great grandkids.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of forty-six years; brothers; Carl Hamilton, Kenny Hamilton, Lewis Hamilton; sister: Doris Yahn.
Larry is survived by his children: Christy Stoneking and husband Jeff of Lowndes, Becky Francis and husband Bill of Farmington, Amy Bennett and husband Justin of Lowndes; grandchildren: Adam Stoneking and wife Mary Kay, Brandi Yount and husband Dwayne, Justin Francis, Johnny Francis, Eric Smith, Krista Francis, Ariel Smith, Audrey Bennett and fiancé Tyler Williams, Catarina Smith, Macey Gillum and husband Trevor, Larry Bennett and wife Billie; great-grandchildren: Emma and Ava Yount, Nolan and Heidi Stoneking; sister: Linda Lands of Jackson. Larry will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation was held at 4:30 pm, Friday, May 24, 2024, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville Chapel. Funeral service followed at 6:00 pm, Friday, May 24, 2024, also in the Greenville Chapel.
