Laura “Penny” Strange, 70, of Williamsville, MO, passed away Friday, June 2, 2023, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. She was born December 12, 1952, in Poplar Bluff to parents Hollis and Donna (Hibbs) Wood. She was united in marriage to John Strange on November 2, 1973.
Penny was a strong hardworking, above and beyond for anyone type of woman. She loved with her whole heart and took care of everyone that crossed her path. Growing up with six brothers she was a tough lady. For many years she worked at Wayne County Nutrition Center and Holmes Store. She was well known for her amazing chicken and dumplings and charming personality. She was feisty and fun, she was unforgettable.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by late husband Ivan Hillis; brothers: Dale Wood, Hollis “Bill” Wood.
Penny is survived by her loving husband of forty-nine years, John Strange; children: Donna Wilcoxon and significant other Bob Dugger of Poplar Bluff, Derek Hillis of Piedmont, Angie Lee and husband Joey of Piedmont, Ashley Francisco and husband David of Camp Lejeune; eleven grandchildren: Devin, Paige, Cullen, Jonathan, Daniela, Dusty, Jordan, Karlee, Bryor, Chase, Keaton; thirteen great- grandchildren; brothers: Mike, “Bo” Rex, Gary, Jackie Dean Wood; many nieces and nephews. She will be missed deeply by her family and friends.
Visitation was held at 5:00 pm, Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Williamsville Chapel. Funeral service followed at 8:00 pm, also in Williamsville Chapel. Pastor Richard Sanders ministered to the family. Online condolences can be made at www.rueggfuneralhomes.com.
