Luis Barrera Luna

Luis “Chino” Barrera Luna, 74, of St. Louis, MO, passed away Friday, January 26, 2024, at Mercy South, St. Louis, MO. He was born in El Llano, Michoacan, Mexico, September 17, 1949, to parents, Francisco and Guadalupe (Luna) Barrera.

Chino was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He married Magdalena Ochoa on May 12, 1972, and they were blessed with four children. He enjoyed viewing documentaries of all types, also watching nature and wildlife. Music was his passion. Chino was a self-taught guitarist and piano player. He and his brothers formed their own band which was called Las Piramides (The Pyramids). They played for many decades. He also enjoyed painting and any type of art. Mostly, Chino was a family man, which was the most important to him and spent as much time with his family and friends as he could. He was also very charitable. He received an act of kindness from a Good Samaritan as a young man and felt that it was his responsibility to pay it forward. Sometimes sheltering total strangers if they were in need.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Chino is survived by his loving and devoted wife of fifty-one years; children: Jose Luis Barrera and wife Jaime of Villa Ridge, Ruth Adriana Ganss and husband William of St. Louis, Noemi Whitener and husband Anton of St. Louis, Magdalena Billingsley and husband DeAndre of Maryland Heights; His grandchildren: Alphonse Luis, Elyana, Gabryella, Isabella, Joshua, Olivia, Samuel, Uriel, and Yanozha; brothers: Salvador, Eliseo, Francisco, Mario, Miguel Barrera; sisters: Martha Ayala and Maria Guadalupe Barrera many nieces and nephews. Chino will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation was held at 9:00 am, Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Kutis Funeral Home, South County Chapel. Funeral service followed at 11:30 am, also in the South County Chapel. Pastor Guillermo Santiago ministered to the family. Music was provided by Lupita Barrera, Angelica Hernandez, Maria Gallegos, Magdalena Billingsley, and Elyana Whitener. Juan Barrera, Marco Barrera, Alphonse Ganss, William Ganss, Yanozha Ganss, Anton Whitener, Samuel Eldridge, and DeAndre Billingsley served as pallbearers.
