Marguerite Diane Loyd, 66, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away Monday, November 17, 2025, at Oakdale Care Center in Poplar Bluff. She was born July 22, 1959, in St. Louis, MO, to William Albert and Mary Jane Rose (Slater) Hartley.
Marguerite was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, and friend whose generous spirit touched everyone she met. Her work as a certified nurse assistant suited her perfectly—she found genuine joy in caring for others and had a natural gift for making people feel seen, heard, and loved. A warm soul with an open heart, she truly never met a stranger.
On March 28, 1998, Marguerite married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Loyd. Together they shared many cherished memories filled with laughter, companionship, and deep affection. Music was one of Marguerite’s greatest pleasures. She possessed a beautifully melodious voice and, in her younger years, sang lead in what she playfully called an “old ladies” band. With kazoos, washboards, and plenty of heart, the group visited nursing homes to bring joy and comfort to residents who could no longer get out and about. Marguerite was very talented and loved to crochet blankets, hats, gloves, kids clothes, stuffed animals and anything else she could think of to crochet.
Marguerite was active in TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), where she served as secretary for several years and built lasting friendships. She adored her fur babies and enjoyed spending time with friends playing Canasta and Bingo. Some of her happiest moments were simple ones—shopping trips and Chinese lunches shared with her beloved daughter, Michelle.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of eighteen years, and brother, William Hartley.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Norm) Hartley-Manis of Poplar Bluff, along with many nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends who will miss her warmth, humor, and unwavering kindness.
Marguerite’s legacy lives on in the countless lives she brightened with her compassion, laughter, and love.
A memorial graveside was held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Anderson Cemetery, Piedmont. Pastor Callum Reavey ministered to the family. Online condolences can be made at www.rueggfuneralhomes.com
