Michael "Mike" Hamby Obituary

Michael “Mike” D. Hamby, 50, of Silva, MO, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. He was born April 26, 1973, in Poplar Bluff, MO, to parents Darrell Hamby and Sharon (Shearrer) Hamby.

Mike was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He married Christine “Tina” Matthews, on May 25, 2019. Mike and Tina were very close and were soulmates. He was there for Tina in her toughest days and his void will be terribly missed by her. During his working career Mike was a delivery driver for Prairie Farms for twenty-eight plus years in Cape Girardeau, he worked for Coca-Cola in Jackson, MO, for about three years as a delivery truck driver. In 2021, he got his dream job. He became camp ranger at Camp Lewallen Boy Scouts of America in Silva, MO.  Mike received his ranger training at Philmont Scout Ranch, Boy Scouts of America in New Mexico, and he was certified to teach archery, firearms and woodworking. At camp with his wife Tina, they made a great difference in the lives of many children and made lasting relationships with many. As a youth he worked for Town and Country and Carter Heating and Cooling.  Mike was a Christian and of the Assembly of God faith. He graduated from Clearwater High School with the class of 1992. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his early years and in later years he enjoyed just watching and enjoying wildlife. Mike was a great storyteller. Everything Mike enjoyed, he loved to share with his people. He poured himself out and was unselfish.  Mike was a true family man. His greatest legacy was his wife, children, and grandchildren.

His is preceded in death by his grandparents: George and Pauline Shearrer and June Hamby.

Mike is survived by his loving and devoted wife of four years; his parents, both of Patterson; children: Layton Hamby and wife Emily of Jackson, Lauren Hamby of Jackson; three bonus daughters: Amy Harding and husband Jeremy; Michelle Sharp and husband Wesley, Amanda Buckley and husband Kent; his first grandchild soon to be born, Easton; bonus grandchildren: Kayne Buckley, Gracyn Sharp, Rhylie Sharp; his sisters: Dana Paullus and husband Jim of Jackson, MO and Darcy Edwards and husband Daniel of Patterson; nieces and nephews: Paige Paullus and Trent Paullus, Brenden, Cassie, and Caitlyn Edwards; and a host of cousins and friends. His life was well lived and he will be missed by many.

Visitation was at 5:00 pm, Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Ruegg Funeral Home in the Piedmont Chapel. A Broken Arrow ceremony for Order of the Arrow of Boy Scouts of America followed at 7:00 pm, also in the Piedmont Chapel. Funeral service was held at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, also in the Piedmont Chapel. Pastor Joe Pouge ministered to the family. Layton Hamby, Jeremy Harding, Wesley Sharp, Kent Buckley, Brenden Edwards, Trent Paullus, Chad Sanders and Kayne Buckley served as pallbearers.
