O. E. "Gene" Bearden, 84, of Piedmont, MO, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Landmark Hospital, Cape Girardeau, MO. He was born August 20, 1939, in Wayne County, MO, to parents Ozrow Ray and Pauline (Kelley) Bearden.
Gene was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He married Marilyn Alexander on April 2, 1960, and they were blessed with two children. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Gene was a Park Ranger for the Corps of Engineers for many years. He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time on the lake. Gene served as Piedmont Chief of Police as well and was a Mason for over fifty years. Gene was very intrigued with his family genealogy. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his granddaughter Ashley Bearden.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-one years; son: Ray Lee Bearden; and sister-in-law: Julia Bearden.
Gene is survived by his daughter: Lisa Jean Bearden and fiancé Michael Mesplay of Festus; grandchild: Ashley Nicole Bearden; brother: Paul Bearden of St. Louis; niece: Theresa Budde; nephew: Paul Bearden Jr. and wife Pam of St. Louis; many friends. Gene will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community.
Visitation was held at 5:00 pm, Saturday, July 27, 2024, Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont Chapel. Funeral service was held Sunday, July 28, 2024, also in the Piedmont Chapel. Pastor Richard Sanders ministered to the family. Robert Bearden, Gene Niewoehner, Michael Mesplay, Jeremy Budde, Gene Davis, and Freddie Zamzow served as pallbearers. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery, Piedmont with full Military Honors provided by the United States Marines and American Legion Post 281 of Piedmont.
