Oran Robert Shearrer

Oran Robert Shearrer, 97, of Patterson, MO, went to meet his Lord, Friday, April 21, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Detroit, MI, April 21, 1926, to parents Robert E. Lee and Maude (Odell) Shearrer.  

Oran was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. At the age of eighteen honorably and unselfishly served his country in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946, serving during World War II. On October 23, 1944, Oran married the love of his life, Jerald F. Taylor, and to this union two children were born. Oran was of the Baptist faith and an active member of Patterson Baptist Church for over sixty-eight years. He farmed for many years after his military service. He then worked in maintenance at Sam A Baker State Park, for twenty years, from 1968 to 1988.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of seventy-five years; brother: Cleacy Shearrer; sisters: Marie Hobart, and Norma DuBay. 

Oran is survived by son: Craig Shearrer and wife Janet of Patterson; daughter: Linda Skaggs and husband Donald of Arnold; grandchildren: Chandler Shearrer and wife Carolyn, Tara Williams and husband Gary, Robert Skaggs and wife Cheryl, Emily Hall and husband Mike; great-grandchildren: Caileigh, Caiden, Garrett, Charles, Grayson, Asher, Isabel, Jadon, Elliana, Ruby, Charlotte, and Josiah; brother: Clyde Shearrer of Patterson; brother-in-law: Jerry Taylor and wife Betty of St. Louis; several nieces and nephews. Oran will be missed greatly his family and friends.   

Visitation was held at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont Chapel. Funeral service was held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, April 26, 2023, also in the Piedmont Chapel. Chaplin Callum Reavey ministered to the family. Chandler Shearrer, Robert Skaggs, Charles Robbins, Mike Hall, Jadon Hall, and Gary Williams served as pallbearers. Burial followed in Rowland-Woods Cemetery, Patterson, with full military honors provided by the United States Navy and American Legion Post 281, Piedmont.
