Ronald David Barks

Ronald David Barks, 85, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2026, at his residence. He was born in Neelyville, MO, August 27, 1940, to parents Norman C. and Sarah E. (Joiner) Barks.

A proud patriot, Ron honorably served his country in the United States Army for twelve years, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his military career, he completed three tours of duty in Vietnam, demonstrating courage, dedication, and a steadfast commitment to those with whom he served.

Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Ron spent many years as an over-the-road truck driver, a career that reflected his independent spirit and strong work ethic.

Ron married Lareda Jo Byers on November 25, 1983. They created many cherished memories over the years.

Ron found great joy in the outdoors and enjoyed spending his free time fishing, target practicing, and searching for historical artifacts with his metal detector. Whether exploring the countryside or simply enjoying nature, he appreciated the simple pleasures of life.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, of twenty-eight years, and his brother, Jerry Barks.

Ron is survived by his brother, Norman Barks and wife, Joy, of Janesville, WI, several cousins and many friends who will remember him fondly.

Ron will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His service to his country, strong work ethic, and quiet enjoyment of life's simple moments will remain a lasting part of his legacy.

Visitation was held at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 3, 2026, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont Chapel. Funeral service followed at 11:00 AM, also in the Piedmont Chapel. Pastor Richard Sanders ministered to the family. Craig Shearrer, Randy McFarland, Mark Reavey, Jerry Barfield, Paul Henson, and Callum Reavey served as pallbearers. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery, Shook, MO, with full military honors provided by the United States Army and American Legion Post 281, Piedmont, MO.
