Rose Sutton Obituary

Rose “Mae” Sutton, 83, of Festus, MO, formerly of Piedmont passed away Thursday, September 16, at her residence. She was born in Bernie, MO, September 24, 1937, to parents Andrew Jackson and Pearl (Stevens) Chilton.

Mae was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. In her younger days, she enjoyed playing volleyball, bowling, and participating in other sporting activities.  Mae was also one of the first female bus drivers for the South Iron School District and thoroughly enjoyed transporting the kids every day and keeping bus #9 spotlessly clean.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Festus-Crystal City. Mae always looked forward to her weekly card games with church friends and her evening bunco games.  She also looked forward to her grandchildren’s school functions and athletic events.  She was one of the biggest fans at every event, rarely missing a game.  Mae also enjoyed the several trips to Disney World (her favorite ride was Soarin) that she was able to take with her family, and attending frequent fish fry’s and cook outs with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers: Paul, Nelson, Bill, and Donald Chilton; sisters: Norma Toney, Betty Kottkamp, and Anna Ruth Higgins.

Mae is survived by her children: Kenny Sutton of Des Arc, Karen Oetting and husband Todd of Festus; grandchildren: Megan Lawson and husband Andy, William Sutton and wife Courtney, Jordan Oetting, Jenna Oetting; great-grandchildren:  Waylon Sutton, Charlotte Lawson, Genevieve Lawson, Alex Lawson; brother: Ben Chilton of St. Louis; sister: Linda Lewis of Vulcan; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Mae will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
