Roy D. Brown, 87, of Vulcan, MO, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024, at his residence. Roy was born January 2, 1937 at Ellington, MO, to parents Jess Brown and Lula (Lane) Brown. He grew up in the Des Arc community and graduated from school in 1955. He enjoyed playing basketball as a youth. Roy had attended SEMO and Washington University. On July 12, 1958, he was united in marriage to Joyce Middleton at the Vulcan Assembly of God Church. Together they shared many years of companionship and were blessed with two children. Roy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather.
During Roy’s working years he spent fourteen years at Brown’s Farm Service Company, sixteen years at McDonald-Douglas as quality control, and lastly, he spent twenty-three years with USPS, serving as a mail carrier at Patton, MO.
Roy had lived in Gordonville for several years and had served as mayor and assistant fire chief and later fire chief.
In spare time he enjoyed spending time with family and coon hunting. He was a former President of State Coon Hunters Association of Missouri.
Roy is survived by his loving wife; son, Michael Brown and wife Debbie of Whitewater, MO; daughter Connie Lange of DeSoto; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Lois Roberts of St. Louis.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by three brothers, Tyman Brown, Don Brown, and Jess Brown; and three sisters, Lorraine Brinkley, Judy Davis, and Marge Wheatley.
Visitation was held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, MO. Funeral service followed at 2:00 pm, also at Piedmont chapel. Pastor Don Hutto ministered to the family. Troy Silvy, Lonnie Roark, Wayne Silvy, DJ Malone, John Griffith, Caden Silvy, and Robbie Robers served as pallbearers. Burial was in Murphy Cemetery near Piedmont.
