Shirley Nadine Crutchfield, 84, Poplar Bluff, MO, formerly of Wayne County, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Shirley grew up in Wayne County and attended Patterson High School. She lived a life of faith and was saved when she was nine years old. She stayed strong and never departed this. She served the Lord in many ways in church and on the street passing out bibles and being helpful for those in need. Shirley married James Crutchfield on June 7, 1958, and they shared nearly sixty-five happy years together. During this time they were blessed with four children and Shirley served her family as a homemaker. She excelled at this and often made her children’s clothing.
Shirley was a devoted and loving mother and she meant so much to the children throughout their lives. She was a constant force of love and encouragement for both her children and her grandchildren. Shirley kept her adventurous spirit until the end. Over her lifetime she traveled to all forty-eight lower states and enjoyed when her kids were able to accompany her on those trips. She had made and sold porcelain dolls and years ago, Shirley’s love for music inspired her to write a song. Several years ago, she wrote a book called Nostalgia. Her three dogs Rusty, Miley, and Lady provided company after Jim passed.
Shirley is survived by her children: Laniel Crutchfield and Olivia of Poplar Bluff, MO, Lynn Street and husband Wayne of Piedmont, Sandy Wood and husband John of Poplar Bluff and Karen Morris and husband Dale of Piedmont; twenty-one grandchildren; fifty-nine great grandchildren; thirteen great-great grandchildren; brothers: Cecil Smith and wife Barbara of Reven’s Den, AR, Roger Smith and wife Claudia of Fredericktown, Garry Smith and wife Judy of Poplar Bluff; sister: Norma Trapp of Piedmont; sister-in-law: Patricia Smith of Cape Girardeau; brother-in-law: Raymond Crutchfield and wife Dee of Advance.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Garrett and Velva (Allen) Smith; her husband; granddaughter, Natasha Andrews; great grandson, Huxley Jackson; brother: Willis Smith.
