Theresa Jane (Pennington) Zahn

Theresa Jane Zahn, 69, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Greenville, MO, passed away Monday, February 23, 2026, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL surrounded by loved ones. Theresa was born in St. Louis, MO, October 24, 1956, to Glen Alfred and Loma “Olene” (Robinson) Pennington.

Theresa was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, and friend who touched the lives of many people throughout the years. She worked in food service as a waitress for many years, where she became known for her warm smile, friendly conversation, and the many connections she made with customers and coworkers alike. Through her work, Theresa met countless people and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime.

She had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed spending time fishing and camping whenever she could. She loved spending time with her grandkids and their many animals. Those moments in nature brought her great happiness and were some of her favorite ways to relax and spend time with family and friends.

She was baptized in Jesus Name on May 20th,2018, at The Journey Church by her son, John Pennington, and shortly after received the Holy Ghost.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother: Clifton Pennington

Theresa is survived by her children: John Pennington and wife Kathleen, Jerry Zahn and wife Danielle, Terry Zahn; grandchildren: Jacob Pennington, Keadon Beck, Arizona Pennington, Sapphire Pennington, Jubilee Pennington, Jessica Crystal Nicole, Andrew Glen, Matthew David, Raymond Zahn; sister-in-law: Kay Pennington, along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will cherish her memory.

Theresa will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation was held at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Greenville Chapel. Memorial service followed at 1:00 pm, also in the Greenville Chapel. Bro. John Pennington ministered to the family. Music was provided by pianist and vocalist, Kathleen Pennington. Burial was in Kirkpatrick Cemetery, Greenville.
