Troy Eugene Smock

Troy E. Smock, 91, of Piedmont, MO, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023, at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, MO. He was born in Murrayville, IL, August 4, 1931, to Troy Smock and Lena (Harney) Smock.

Troy grew up in Murrayville and attended school in nearby Jacksonville. Following his education, Troy proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. A highly decorated veteran, he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal with "V" device, Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and one Overseas Bar. He was also one of the few brave survivors of the harrowing battle at Pork Chop Hill.

After his military service, Troy lived in Mt. Sterling and later in Beardstown, IL, where he worked for many years at Oscar Mayer/Excel until his retirement. In his later years, he moved to Piedmont, where he enjoyed his well-earned retirement.

Troy had a deep love for classic cars and could often be found working on his beloved show truck, which he proudly entered in local car shows. A devoted NASCAR fan, he rarely missed a race and enjoyed talking shop with fellow enthusiasts.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his companion of twenty-two years, Dorothy Richards; siblings: Charles, Frank, Orville, Robert, Richard, Isabelle, Mary, Louise, Letty Mae, and Mary Ellen, who was raised as a sister.

Troy is survived by his daughters: Lori VanCour, Lisa Molzhon and husband Stephen, both of Piedmont; grandchildren: Justin, Joshua, Lindsay, Ashton, and Maddie; ten great-grandchildren. Troy’s love for his family and his steadfast spirit will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.

Troy lived a life marked by service, resilience, and a quiet strength. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him.
