Velda Mae (Sutton) Keister

Velda Mae Keister, 92, of Jackson, MO, formerly of Piedmont, MO, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023, at The Villas of Jackson. She was born in Ironton, MO, March 29, 1931, to parents Edward and Eva (Campbell) Sutton.

Velda was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was raised in Ironton and was a High School graduate of Ironton High School. Velda loved helping people. She was the Regional Director for the Division of Family Services. She had a soft spot in her heart for children. Velda was of the Baptist faith and the last charter member of United Baptist Church of Piedmont, and past attended Lynnwood Baptist Church. She truly enjoyed working in her church, especially rocking the babies in the nursery. Velda enjoyed quilting, basket weaving, and watching her grandsons play ball. Velda’s greatest legacy was her family.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sons: Rusty and Paul Keister; daughter: Pat Wisdom; granddaughter: Stephanie Keister; brother: Phillip Sutton; sisters: Glenda Boardman and Nadine Pannebaker.

Velda is survived by her children: Mark S. Keister and wife Billie Sue of Jackson, Pam Davis of Hillsboro; grandchildren: Eva Barnes and husband Richard, Matthew Keister, Mark Keister, Tony Ward, Charity Busby, Michael Smith, Nicole Davis, Kayla Davis; many great and great-great grandchildren; brother: Melvin Sutton of Des Peres. Velda will be greatly missed by her family and friends. 

Visitation was held at 11:00 am, Friday, May 12, 2023, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont Chapel. Funeral service followed at 1:00 pm, also in Piedmont Chapel. Dr. Chris Vaught ministered to the family. Mark S. Keister gave a heartfelt message. Music was provided by Kyle Torrence. Matthew Keister, Mark S. Keister, Brandon Barnes, Tony Ward, Michael Smith, Mark Keister served as pallbearers.
