Virgie Hicks Obituary

Virgie I. Hicks 102, of Piedmont, MO, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2024, at her residence. She had been a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was born on November 6, 1922, at Patterson, MO, to parents James and Dora Alice (Buck) Faulkner. She spent most of her life in Wayne County surrounded by family. In her early years she was raised on a farm at Rings Creek. Life in those days was filled with work. Virgie’s childhood was busy with chores from cooking and cleaning and lots of homework. True enjoyment for Virgie was a wagon ride from her farm to Patterson.

Virgie was a graduate of Patterson High School in 1940 and went to St. Louis to work after graduation. She worked on the assembly line at Continental Can and later worked in the cafeteria there. Through family connections she knew Clecy Hicks and they fell in love and married on Jun. 26, 1948. To this union they were blessed with three children. In later years Virgie and Clecy returned to Piedmont. During those days Virgie was a cook for Clark’s Mountain Nursing Center and a cook for several local restaurants. When the grandchildren were born, she was a blessing to them, often helping them with homework and being a big part of their lives. In spare time she enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens, enjoyed coloring books and cooking for her family. Virgie lived life with true understanding to others. She was a Christian and of the Baptist faith. Her sons cared for her until she passed.

Virgie is survived by her two boys: Larry Hicks and Jimmy Hicks and companion Barb Skaggs, all of Piedmont; grandchildren: Kenny Hicks, Terra Hicks, Josh Hicks, Gary Hicks, Clara Hicks, Michael Hicks, Jeremiah Hicks, Jamie Hicks and Ryan Hicks; several great-grandchildren; daughter in law Elizabeth Hicks; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Gary Hicks; brothers: Henry Faulkner, Clarence Faulkner, Albert Faulkner, George Faulkner; sisters: Nellie Poynor, Cora “Alice” Aldrich, and Hassie Faulkner.
