Walter “Walt” M. Martin, 80, of Patterson, MO, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at his residence. He was born in Cairo, IL, September 7, 1941, to parents Walter B. and Emma Kay (Morehead) Martin.
Walt was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He married Cynthia Lewis, February 5, 2004. Walt proudly served in the United States Army and completed a tour in Vietnam. He was a heavy equipment and crane operator for Local 513 in St. Louis for fifty-three years. Walt was a member of Trinity Church where he became a Stephen minister and taught “over the hill gang” for many years, and had recently attended Patterson Assembly of God Church. Walt loved to talk about God. He enjoyed woodworking, drawing, craft shows, his 1999 Ford F150, playing Santa, and building on his home which he called his little piece of Heaven. Besides his love for his Lord and Savior, Walt’s greatest joy was his granddaughters.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Don and Steve Martin; sister: Sherry Voigt.
Walt is survived by his loving wife of seventeen years; children: Bobby Martin of Paducah, KY, Tammy Youngblood and husband Marty of Mounds, IL, Christopher Young of Forest City, AR; Chad Young and wife Victoria of Piedmont, step-daughter: Melissa Martin and husband James of Granite City, IL; grandchildren: Cody Youngblood, Samantha Gihring and fiancé Zach Saggio, Isabella Hembhill, Meredith Young, Mikelya Young, Madyson Young, Maybre Young, Mckinley Young, and adopted granddaughter: Breanna Miller, brother: Eddie Martin of Herrin, IL, many nieces, nephew, and friends.
Visitation will be held at 4:30 pm, Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am. Thursday, December 30, 2021, with full military honors, also in the Piedmont Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ruegg Funeral Homes, Inc. in care of Walt Martin's service.
