Wanda May Bennett Obituary

Wanda May (Hopkins) Bennett, 84 of Lowndes, MO, passed away Friday, December 27, 2019. She was born January 26, 1935, in Wappapello, MO, to parents William Henry and Myrtle May (Critchfield) Hopkins. Wanda was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. On November 21, 1956, she was united in marriage to Bill Paul Bennett, and to this union six children were born. She is survived by her children: Linda Rogers Peine and husband Michael of Wappapello, MO, Belinda Bennett of Silva, MO, Janet Faith Bennett of Greenville, MO, Paul Bennett of Lowndes, MO, Joseph Bennett of Wappapello, MO, Adam Bennett of Greenville, MO; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law: Blair Bollinger; many nieces, nephews, honorary family members and friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill, of fifty-nine years; brothers: Otis, Billy, J L, and Sammy Hopkins; sisters: Uvonne Bollinger, Yvonne Rohan; great grandson: Wyatt Connor Bennett; son-in-law Dewayne Rogers. She was of the General Baptist faith and was baptized as a teenager. She past attended Advance First Church. In recent months, Wanda and Bro. Callum spent much time together enjoying fellowship in the Lord. As a child growing up, she enjoyed the time she spent with her family. She enjoyed working in the garden, caring for her younger siblings, caring for animals, and helping her Dad with making railroad ties. She was grateful for the fact that she was raised that a female could take on jobs that were considered male dominated jobs. She was glad to be able to continue those opportunities in marriage and motherhood. Wanda and Bill worked side by side in the timber business and home life, raising six children. Wanda was known for her homemade rolls, Christmas candies, her green thumb with flowers and the garden. She was an animal lover and enjoyed her collection of music, especially her Christian music. She was a simple person and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, listening to gospel music, and reading her Bible. In the last few years, she acquired a hobby coloring and was able to get her family interested in her hobby with her. She will be greatly missed.
