William Hicks Obituary

William "Bill" Arthur Hicks, 90, of St. Louis, MO, formerly of Wayne County, MO, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Christian Northeast Hospital, St. Louis, MO. He was born in Greenville, MO, August 20, 1934, to Andrew Jackson and Mittie Alvina (Bracy) Hicks.

A devoted family man, Bill was a loving father, nurturing grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he earned a Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars for his courage and dedication. He married the love of his life; Helen Marie Westmoreland and they were blessed with two children.

A skilled bricklayer by trade, Bill took immense pride in his work. His craftsmanship can still be seen in countless structures that stand as a testament to his dedication and skill. After fifty years of hard work, he was fortunate to retire early and enjoy the peaceful life he had earned.

Bill found great joy in the simple pleasures—casting a line while fishing at the lake, the thrill of quail hunting, cheering on a good baseball game, and listening to country music. These hobbies brought him peace and connection to the world around him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty years; brothers: Albert Hicks, Presnell Hix, and Andrew Hicks Jr.; brothers-in-law: Lindell Moore and Gail Schamel.

Bill is survived by his loving children: William Ray Hicks and wife Diana of Patterson, Deborah Jeffries and husband Timothy of Florissant; grandchildren: Joseph Jeffries and wife Lauryn, Thomas Jeffries, Logan Hicks, LaRae Earle and husband Joshua; great-grandchildren: Kyle Hicks, Kevin Hicks, Emily Earle, Joshua Earle, Joel Jeffries, Abigail Jeffries, and James Jeffries; brother: Raymond Hicks and wife Norma of DeSoto; sisters: Peggy Moore of Pevely, Carol Lanzafame and husband Jim of Fenton, Hattie Benner and husband Charlie of Fenton, and Zueline Schamel of Pacific; sister-in-law: Darlas Hicks of Arnold; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Bill lived a full and meaningful life, guided by faith, family, and hard work. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love for the outdoors, and the deep care he gave to those around him.

A life well lived, and a man well loved — Bill's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
